THE TECHNOLOGICAL EVIL OF MOBILIZATION AND ITS DEVILISH SOCIAL AGENTS

THE LACHRYMAL SAGA
T
he lamming dissertations on the primal faces of the Nigerian newspapers on 11th day of August, 2011 are enough to discourage education and educators in the educational sector. Collectively, they are groans on the performance of students in the last SSCE examinations. The Sun with its special mark of negativity says: “One million Fail SSCE… only 31% pass and 81, 573 results withheld” meanwhile, other dailies reviewed the situation by applying some positive grease and represented the situation in more acceptable fashion. However, the fact remained that results of most candidates were poor, poor to the extent that only few climbed the fence of five credits including Mathematics and English. Though, ours in the seminary was exceptionally beautiful- maybe we are the Lord’s chosen ones. Out of these successful candidates that supposedly passed with their aggregate credits, some would have passed ineffectively because the might have passed mathematics and English without the required subjects for the university course. For instance, a student planning medicine might have passed Mathematics, English, Yoruba, Further Mathematics and Biology. Those combinations are almost useless in his pursuit of medicine.
Since the commencement of this dreaded announcement and the authorization to check the results online, many have fainted, cried and some have attempted suicide. These categories are the bold ones who have summoned the courage to check. Some others are trembling in fear, some have claimed that the scratch card for checking their results have finished in the market while others still claim that the results are not out. It is a candid prayer that they would have the courage to do so some time in the nearest future.
The more troubling quest is the cause of such massive failure. Through personal introspection and collective analysis, it has been discovered that students have chattered their dreams away and have rested to confidence on electronic gadgets instead of reading. The vogue in town, even in secondary schools is all about the technological advancements on phones and different means of socialization. However, to say this is the only cause of the massive failure would be deception in its apogee. There are other lackadaisically proclivities shown by students in schools that have warranted such quantum strength of failure.
It should be lucidly obvious that the communications arena is TAGGED as negative or dangerous. Rather the case is that it is clear that it has some outrageous control on the young ones and as it, is it is time 2GO.

A MOMENTOUS DECADE OF A NOVEL MEANS OF COMMUNICATION
T
he production of the wireless telecommunication is a lollapalooza. The reception of GSM into Nigeria is an outstanding feat of development in the progression of civilization. Without it, we would have remained in the circuit of NITEL and its long dialing problematic. Hence, as this mode of communication celebrates its advent into the country, it is apt that loaded lauds be sung of its tremendous achievements in improving the life of its citizens without forgetting its high rates of tax and exploitation at the same time. Just Ten years of its stay has recorded high praise and usage.
A more interesting phenomenon about the usage of these novel telecommunication riches is the echelon of its sophistication. When it first arrived, the obvious product was NOKIA 3300. This product is now a curse today. People now use it to depict some sorts of abjectness in the individual. However, this does not negate the possibilities of some peoples’ preference of it compared to other products in market. Hence, the Nigerian market could be considered as freakish of phones. In fact, most Nigerians are phone freaks. There is an aura of enthusiasm when it comes to phones and it prizes. Ridiculously, this phone-temperament is not within the domicile of youths, the old too want to use phones that can browse though they may never come in terms with its utilities. This is the ticklish situation in Nigeria.
Children and youths have taken this phone-stuff into a schizophrenic dais. Most of us are crazy at the mention of phones. I have seen a young man who has sold his parents’ jewelries to buy phone. It is fortunate and unfortunate simultaneously to state that this category of the society use the most expensive set of phones, I mean the youths.
That is not all; the data plans of all the existing networks are on their heads. A secondary school boy in JSS 2 can recite without delaying all the data bundles of our different phone networks and their rate, benefits and charges. More so, he would rehearse all the cheat codes, their times and configurations as if he is reciting the famous TIMES TABLE in Mathematics or the PERIODIC TABLE in Chemistry. These indicate therefore the level of devotion they have given to phone activities. A child of nine would refuse any phone that cannot browse or that does not have camera.  This situation is a drastic one that needs radical and urgent repair otherwise the situation of massive failure and the educational decadence would continue to go down the drain.
PING ME PLZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
T
he Blackberry Syndrome is in concomitance with the problem in focus. Hustling for BB is not in disharmony with the situation at hand. What this crave has cost is irreparable in the loss of humanity and dignity. Many girls have gone into a state of oblivion and obliteration in order to secure a Blackberry phone. Guys too have done the rather not done to get a blackberry phone. Strolling away from this moral unrighteousness, these gadgets are time consuming and addictive in nature; for anybody that has got a Blackberry, to leave it becomes a situation that is undesirable or at best- a dilemma. For a person that has exams to write and has a blackberry, if he does not possess a strong will and an acute sense of priority, he would pick his blackberry above his examinations. But what would a young boy of 15 do?
On blackberry phones as on many other phones, there are countless social networks, messengers and applications that are time-consuming on their own. The most popular is Facebook. We have others like; blackberry messenger, yahoo messenger, windows messenger, Goggle talk, iSkoot, Skype, Viigo, Parlingo, Whatapps, Twitter, Badoo, Myspace, Tagged, Nimbuzz, Netlog, Flickr, Snaptu, Esikmi, and the popular 2go.
These social networks and applications are very good and instrumental in our socializations but the time allocation is the failure and mess that most people fall into. Many will wake up in the morning and begin with 2go all through the day even to the extent of forgetting when to eat. It is only when their batteries are out that they will remember they have not eaten. When so much concentration is given to these internet applications the result is vivid, nothing but the encouraged massive catastrophe.
CAUTION IN THIS LACKADAY SITUATION: LEAVE FACEBOOK and FACE- YOUR- BOOK
T
here is therefore every reason to draw a note of caution in these epidemic conditions. It is all about self-discipline and recognition of priorities. To ban phones can never a realizable project or would it be the best solution. However, control of its usage and maturity could be a better suggestion to the problem. There is always time for everything. When it is time for examinations, adequate preparation should be made and this will require spending most of your time marrying and impregnating your books so that you can give birth to ideas on your papers when those ideas are required to be born. Many may say we don’t bring it school; we don’t use it in school, is it only in school that you must read? Must you not read also at home? Homecoming should not then be an avenue to storm Facebook since you have been away; you want to post “what was on your mind” even for those times you have been in school. Posting irrelevant things that should remain perpetually in the dark.
Furthermore, the internet has so many other benefits that we should explore. For example there are many applications that tend towards academics and study development. There are other academic materials that can be googled, it is not only face book that is on the net or other social distractions. For the sake of rectitude and probity, we must use the internet well. There are so many stuffs on the internet that are not morally permitted to be read or watched. The mind is only inclined to thinking evil and doing evil. It must be mastered and brought to subjugation; otherwise, innocent souls would drift down the waters of sin and consequently be re-baptized in the waters of sin and hell. Our Slogan should be: WORK AND PLAY not PLAY ALONE. We must be sensitive to priorities and learn how to decide to favour the future always in any decision we make. This does not interpret that we should not Facebook or Ping but that we must be cautious to know when it is the time to study and the time to catch fun.
